Western Road Urban Garden Project

The Western Road Urban Garden project is funded by the Mayor of London and aims to transform a large derelict area in Southall and create a community green space on a site which is currently overgrown with weeds and bushes and has become a hotspot for drug users and antisocial behaviour. The site covers 2600 sq metres and the clean up will create a multipurpose community garden offering food, horticulture, leisure and community interaction.

Our Urban Garden will considerably enhance green space in a very deprived area of Southall by:

· turning it into a publicly accessible green space, creating a green oasis where none had previously existed

· Removing weeds overgrowth and plants to make the land usable for food growing and horticulture

· Planting fruit trees and fruit bushes will create a community orchard that provides a fresh fruit for local residents, the surplus of which could be provided to local food banks

· have educational classes on site about the benefits of enjoying green space
